Borneo is famed for its orang-utans the man of the forest. Humans and orangutans share more than 98% common DNA but humans are destroying their population at an alarming rate. Borneo is not just biodiverse on land but also below the surface. Ecoteer has a volunteer Borneo project partner on the islands off Kota Kinabalu. Help protect giant clams and bring these jewels of the reef back from the brink of extinction.

The island of Borneo is also culturally rich. Ecoteers official second volunteer project is designed at helping teach English to the palm oil children in the state of Sabah. Volunteer Borneo and Sabah and help provide these children with basic primary education which they would otherwise be deprived.

Ecoteer are combing forces with a local NGO to help them expand their network of learning centres across Sabah, Borneo Malaysia. This volunteer Borneo project will be the second project to be run by Ecoteer. Help teach English to the children of palm oil workers who would otherwise have no education.

Orangutan volunteering in Borneo

The orangutan volunteer Borneo project is a collection of orangutan conservation projects in both Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo, funded by volunteer Borneo contributions. The GOP's strength lies in its unique collaboration of orangutan conservation organisations or individuals who exchange knowledge, advice and ideas towards orangutan conservation in this part of the world. Each project has the shared vision of increasing the size and health of Borneo orangutan populations, bringing them back from the brink of extinction.

Climate

Malaysian Borneo is in the tropics with daily temperatures being a constant 34 degrees throughout the year. The country is affected by an annual monsoon with the east coast of west Malaysia experiencing high wind and rain from the months of November through to February. The monsoon also affects Borneo but is usually much less severe.
