How to raise your funds
Before you
volunteer you will need to raise some funds for travel expenses and to
cover any costs incured while volunteering. Plus it is highly advisable to
have roughly £200-500 spare incase of emergency.
There are many ways to raise these funds:-
- Join just giving a website where you have your own
webpage to tell people what you are doing and why you need to raise
money. Many of my friends have joined this and it is a great way to
collect money from friends, family and people looking to give money to people
for a worthwhile purpose.
- Run/enter sponsorship events like a bike ride,
marathon etc,
- Run an event for example a party before you go
away. Invite all your friends charge £5 and organise a raffle and some
games. Plus this is a great way to say goodbye to everybody before you
go away. People have been known to raise over £800 from these events.
- Make sure you advertise what you are doing in a local
paper any events you are organising etc. This will tell people who you
have lost contact with.
- Car boot sales are a great way to de-clutter your
house and your friends houses. You should make about £100 each sale.
- Go to your local library and look at the 'Fund finder'
directory. The directory lists grants which offer anything from £50 to
£1000 for different purposes including travel, volunteer work and for
furthering your education.
