About the Placement

"Volunteer Village Activity Stays" A village service project in ethnic villages in the remote North of Laos





ARE YOU seeking a very different traveling experience?



DO YOU want to help out and learn about traditional ethnic communities?



DO YOU want to do all that in a really remote, off-the-beaten-track place?





This project based in Muang Khua gives you the rare opportunity to be a visitor with a purpose. We hope you can stay for a few days, as it is less disturbing and more beneficial to the community.



We (Tiger Trail, UNODC and the Lao government) co-operate to generate alternative income to former Opium growing communities. You will live in an Akha ethnic minority village, located in Phongsali Province, the northernmost, remotest and poorest region in Laos. Here you find more information about Muang Khua region



This is a truly different travel experience, as you will participate in villagers day-to-day activities and immerse yourself in ethnic community life. During the day you will be busy with cooking classes, collecting forest products, learning how to make traditional ethnic handicrafts, feeding chicken, planting rice, or teaching English while learning Lao and Akha language. At night you will be eating traditional Akha meals and be sleeping in a simple but beautiful nature lodge with amazing views or in families homes.



Minimum stays in villages with interpreter 3days 2nights

(+ travel to Destination min. 1 day, + Departure 1 day)



Extended stays with volunteering possible!



All our interactive and cultural exchange tours with the villages include a supervisor and support for the guests who stay there. A time of introduction as well as information material is provided. Daily work includes supporting the villagers within their work on the fields, housing, at school, harvest and planting as well as preparation of daily food supplies. Handicraft production, weaving, basket making, carrying water, helping kids if parents are on fields and such... All programs in our communities include village fund payments, government taxes, special service fees to the community, host families and guide fees. Role of Volunteer

Travel Information

We will provide the travel from Muang Khua. You can reach Muang Khua by public transportation from Luang Prabang via Udomxai. We can arrange this for you if you like.



Costs:

The fees include the transportation cost from Muang Khua to the Honglerk activity area, which is the start of the trail to reach the village. Walking distance is about 3 hrs. one way. The first village in which our supportive activities are introduced lies in a beautiful hillside area, see picture below. You have to accept extremely basic living conditions; all services such as food, water, tea and such included. Please check back for further information with our team.





COST of our "Volunteer Village Activity Stay" voluntourism programs:



A project contribution applies to all participants of the program and needs to be paid in advanced, you will receive an official invoice from the operating company:



Start up contribution 50,- USD per person (for any length of stay)



Daily contribution

2 visitors: 40,- USD per person per day incl. start day and departure day



3-5 visitors 35,- USD per person per day inlc. start day and departure day
