Help in Uganda

Placement number: 0204
Location:      Uganda
Preferred Languages: English and Vernacular
Date:  All year
Minimum Period : 2 weeks

Our Child Care Centre is in Lukaya, Uganda has grown since it opened in January 2005 to care for and educate over 270 children, ages 3-8 years, most of whom are orphans (children with only one parent or none). We are a registered community based organization.Through the support of our nonprofit partner in the United States, Real Partners Uganda, Inc. (a 501(c)(3) corporation: EIN 20-5236756), each child receives all-day care, a pre-school education, uniforms, a midday meal and periodic health care. In providing this assistance, we have partially relieved many young mothers (and some fathers) of child care responsibilities, enabling them to seek employment in this bustling truck stop town. Through our program we address two major forces that keep people in poverty:

a) demands of child care: we enable parents of young children to have time, free of parenting responsibilities, to earn a living,

and b) expensive education: we enable their children to receive an early education that their parents could not afford. We prepare the children to succeed as they advance in school.

Despite our help, many poor parents struggle to find jobs and food in Lukaya because they typically lack sufficient skills and business training to find steady employment of the usual types. Therefore we  carry out the following activities to save the situation of the community; Nursery and primary education, Integrated organic farming, Craft work project by Artisans Guild. Medicinal Garden and butterfly site, etc
