Our project is one of the oldest multi-ethnic organisation lunched in 1958.  We work for peace through development.  Our organisation is registered with the government unde the voluntary social services organisation at number 81 of 1980.

We mainly work for peace democracy and human rights.  It helps to strengthen the peace process in the country while accepting the peoples rights to peace and aims at alleviating poverty through promoting entrepreneurship.

The organisation is a network of local units in 10 districts in Sri Lanka and has won two national awards - Environment award and Best tsunami Rehabilitation award.

Role of Volunteer

Our volunteers will help with our various projects depending on their particular skills.  The projects include:-

1. Advocate the civil society for peace building, culture of peace and reconciliation
2. Advocacy program for establishment of good governance, democracy and securing human rights
3. Women rights
4. Youth safe sex and aids awareness
5. Children development - alleviation of malnutrition, awareness of child abuse and torture of children
6. Environmental conservation programs - soil erosion, organic farming, herbal medicines
7. Agriculture - Help with increasing efficiency and production of farming
8. Water supply and sanitation - One of the greatest needs in the region is pure drinking water
9. Strengthening social structures and appreciation of outstanding personalities.

Cost

Volunteers pay roughly US$13 per day for lodgings, food and travel.

Travel

Volunteers will be picked up from the airport which is included in the fee.
