WThe Rammsco International (prep) School
derived its name from a philanthropist who
supported the school during its early stage: in
full stands for Rev Alfou Merten”s Memorial
shool. It was established in September 1979
with an enrolment of thirteen children.
Rammsco International (prep) school is
located within a typical rural set up in
Donkokrom in the Eastern Region, where
poverty level of the inhabitants is below
average.
Present total enrolment is 255 consisting of
132 boys and 123 girls. The school is
composed of a Kindergarten 1 and 2 for
nursery department classes 1-6 as primary
department and junior secondary department
of JSS 1-3.
The school has eleven (11) temporal wooden
structures forming the wall and roofed with
corrugated galvanized sheets. The KG 1 and 2
has been built with sand Crete blocks. KVIP
toilets and urinaries are provided.
Role of Volunteer
Volunteers will be expected to carry out
normal teaching assignments in English
language. They may share experiences with
the local teachers. Volunteers with knowledge
in the teaching of French language could assist
since it is one of the languages taught in the
school. Teaching the use of computer will
also be appreciated. It would be an asset if
any volunteer has skill training background in
masonry, carpentry and joinery, cookery,
dressmaking and needlework.
The guest house for the volunteers can
conveniently accommodate four or more when
paired in a room. The rooms are provided
with beddings, chairs, electricity. KVIP toilet
and bathroom facilities are available. There
could be outage of electricity at times.
Lanterns are used during such situations.
Potable water supply system is just a stone
throw from the guest house. However,
containers are being provided for storage of
water. Kitchen is available to enable
volunteers prepare quick meals/convenience
food if they so much desire.
Other facilities such as telephone and bicycles
are made available for a token fee.
Cost
We charge volunteers $250 for under a month, 1 month is $350 and every subsequent month is only $100. These charges are for accommodation only food is the responsibility of the volunteer
Travel
We can pick you up from Kotoka International Airport where you will be met by your project co-coordinator.
