Inca Wasi is a recently founded non profit organization operating in the city of Cajamarca, Peru, with the aim of giving aid and support to local children from impoverished backgrounds. A team of international and Peruvian volunteers provide food, classes and medical attention to children who would otherwise be on the streets. Inca Wasi's main goal is getting all children to attend school. It helps with the provision of school materials; it also fosters good relations within the community. Originally set up by Agenda SOS in March 2004, Inca Wasi is currently managed by 5 volunteers living in Cajamarca, Peru. In Cajamarca a group of volunteers, a trained psychologist and a team of Peruvian staff live and work together on the project. Children come to the center on a daily basis for lessons and lunch. They remain with us until they are attending school regularly and are ready to graduate. The secretary liaises with parents, teachers and community members; the volunteers organize activities of a wide-ranging nature. Doctors from the local hospital carry out regular check ups on all the children. Spanish classes are provided to those who do not speak the language fluently, but preference is given to people who do.
US $300 for the first month, $200 the second month, and $150 for subsequent months. This includes accommodation and food (2 meals a day 5 days a week).
Volunteers will be met at the airport by the project manager or another experienced volunteer, who will travel with them to the project.
