Sunrise Assisted Living Center for Senior Citizens aims to serve the most vulnerable category of people in Moldova - those elderly who are single (lonely), sick, or physically differently abled, and who therefore need extra help caring for themselves. Vanja from Croatia, who is constantly working to resolve the social problems in Moldova, opened the center in 2003. Sunrise provides beneficiaries with a public kitchen and offers them laundry and bath facilities. It is also a social center where there are organized activities in a friendly atmosphere to encourage bonding.

Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Eastern Europe. The elderly often have very little access to basic necessities like food, health care, and clean water. Sunrise is located in a town called Straseni, 25km from Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.

Role of Volunteer

1. Manual labor like renovations, maintenance, gardening, kitchen duties.
2. Taking care of the elderly.
3. Teaching English.
4. Writing funding proposals, taking care of the website, etc

Cost

Accommodation and food are free. Volunteers are asked to give a once-off donation of US $250 to the center to assist with maintenance costs. Fundraising is also warmly received.

Travel

Volunteers will be met at the airport by the project manager or another experienced volunteer, who will travel with them to the project.
