Lotus Children's Center was started in 1993. Currently the center cares for 8 girls, 12-18 years old. It also runs nursery school in Korlegonno and a children's library at the center. The center is located in Lartebiokorshie, near the center of Ghana's capital city, Accra. The streets are a rough and un-tar-sealed sandy maze. Palm and papaya trees decorate the otherwise barren gardens; despite it being a city, goats and chickens wander about everywhere. We accept only female volunteers at this project.

Role of Volunteer

1. Teach nursery school classes
2. Run the library
3. Help girls at the center with homework, reading, etc

Cost

US $350 the first month and $100 for each month thereafter. This cost includes a donation to the school, food, and accommodation.

Travel

Didi Shanta, who runs the center, will meet volunteers at the airport and take them to the center. It is about 40 minutes from the airport.
