Help at Boys schools in Ghana

Due to poverty, many parents in rural areas of Ghana are unable to pay for their children to attend school for very long. Many end up dropping out and living on the streets. Involvement in drugs and other risky behaviors is common. The project's manager, Mr. Kofi Boafo Charles, began an initiative called Operation Catch Them Young to help assist the street children realize their talents and get back to school. He established Tintinto Boys' Project to train street boys in a game they love to increase their skill and provide them education and counseling. The project is located in an area called Kwahu Ridge, in Ghana's Eastern region. Volunteers stay with families in local villages.

Role of Volunteer

  1. Teach at local schools during the day and teaching after school classes in Math, English, and Science
  2. Coach soccer after school
  3. Educate youth about avoiding HIV infection and drug use
  4. Counsel youth about their daily problems

Cost

US $350 the first month and $100 for each month thereafter. This cost includes a donation to the school, food, and accommodation.
