Located near the source of the Nile River in east-central Jinja, Uganda, El-Shadai Family Foster Home provides a healthy, nurturing family environment to ~30 former street children and orphans, aged ranged from 3 years - 18 years, as well as supporting an extended family of abandoned and abused children with counseling, mentorship, and school assistance. In addition to assisting in the home, under the umbrella organization of Rejoice Outreach International, a registered non-profit community-based Indigenous Charity, volunteer opportunities are available to train and assist local support groups geared towards various target populations (e.g., young mothers, widows, single mothers, and youth) and administrators and educators in the many and varied schools near Jinja. You'll find Uganda and the El-Shadai family most welcoming, with a flexible program meeting your strengths and the needs of the children and local community.

Role of Volunteer

1. Organizing sports, outings, music and dance, and other activities with the children
2. Counseling children regarding day-to-day problems
3. Administrative work, including organizing records and development proposals
4. Assisting teachers and administration at the children's local schools; public and private, boarding and day, primary and secondary levels
5. Assisting in fundraising for money to develop and sustain the project,
6. Empowering the community through training, sensitizing, and advocacy.

Cost

US $350 for the first month, $150 for the second month, $100 for the third month, and $80 for subsequent months. This covers food and accommodation.

Travel

Volunteers send their flight info to the project director and he meets them at the Entebbe airport on arrival and travels with them via coach bus to the project.
