Luwawa Forest Lodge is an International Guest House and Outdoor Adventure Centre in the Viphya Mountains of Northern Malawi, Central Africa. It has developed particularly good relations with local people through the initiation of eco-tourism projects, which are pro-poor and environmentally sustainable. The lodge wishes to continue this work through the appointment of a replacement eco-tourism volunteer for a period initially of one year.

Role of Volunteer

The person appointed must be self reliant, confident and dynamic with a genuine interest in third world development and in particular Pro- poor Tourism, which is environmentally sustainable. The volunteer must have good communication skills and speak fluent English and be prepared to learn Chitumbuka to a basic level. The person appointed must be able to work with local people on the existing projects and help them initiate new income generating projects, which are financially viable and environmentally sustainable. An interest and skill in Crafts would be an added advantage.

The volunteer must be diplomatic and sensitive to the problems and needs of local people in what is one of the poorest countries in the world.

Cost

The volunteer will be provided with secure bed-sit type accommodation with en-suite facilities, in the main complex of Luwawa Forest Lodge. Office space and Computer facilities are available. Food is free of charge and a bar allowance may be paid based on some assistance with serving at the bar at night. Working hours are flexible but professional and weekends off for touring Malawi are accepted.

Travel

Travel to the lodge is the responsibility of the volunteer.
