Madagascan Camp

Placement number:
0080
Location: Madagascar
Preferred Languages: French is a must - want French/English bilingual volunteers.
Date: April to October
Minimum Period : 1 month

The camp is set in breathtaking scenery: on one side,  the  majestic Tsaranoro, a 800 meters cliff, and on the other, an impressive range of mountains bordering the Andringintra National Park;  the whole coloured in mysterious reddish yellowish tones. Seems like you’re in a western movie! Here, an hour off the touristy National South road (NR 7), the villagers’ lifestyle has not changed in centuries, and you will know what Malagasy hospitality is really about.  As for the camp, it is surely the best comfort you can have in one of the most remote places of Madagascar. A most pleasant stop on the south road Tana / Tulear.

We have 10 large South African luxury style tents, each with its own private shower (hot water on request), hand basin and chemical toilets. The bedrooms are tastefully furnished with precious Malagasy wood twin beds, wardrobe and night table.  No electricity in this wild place but candles and hurricane  lamps. A large restaurant tent and a zafimaniry wooden living room where tea and coffee is complimentary. Our cuisine is simple but tasty and with Malagasy accents (due to the difficulties to provide regularly the camp with vegetables, please inform us ahead if you are vegetarian). Within a 10 minutes walk,  a natural swimming pool, and  a river.

The camp is an hour’s drive off NR 7, (Tana/Tulear road). From April to October, the road is usually in good state, except for the last 10km linking Vohitsoaka to Tsara  for which we recommend a quick transfer with one of our trucks.

In order to appreciate your stay at our camp, it is not necessary to be especially athletic. Indeed, we propose a large range of excursions, from gentle ones to expeditions!  Our easy walks will take you in a sacred forest (and probably to catta lemurs), to a waterfall, and in  the nearby villages. A unique opportunity  to discover the malagasy traditional life of this isolated population : people live only with the weather, the sun  and the rice harvest as a clock.  Our sporty walks will make you climb up Mount Chameleon (a day’s trek)and Pic Boby, the highest accessible peak of Mada (4 days / 3nights trek).  Possibility of cliffhanging too.
