This Nepal Jungle Lodge was established in 1965 by Mr. Jim Edwards in the heart of tropical jungle of lowlands of Terai - Chitwan, which was  later transformed into a National Park and declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO is the pioneer jungle lodge in Asia.   The lodge has been practicing Ecotourism since its inception not only as the ?buzz word? but is indeed working for the conservation of wildlife and sustainable development of the local community.   Local materials have been used to build the lodge to keep up with the jungle ambience. Also, though it falls under the premium category of jungle lodge in Nepal, it has always used simple facilities to help sustain the environment of the national park. Solar energy has been utilized for electricity, kerosene heaters and gas stove for kitchen. Also to blend with the entire environment of the jungle colors such as green, beige, brown and black has been mostly used for the  bungalows, rooms and dining hall of the lodge.

Apart from blending the lodge with the natural environment, we send our naturalists almost every year for training sessions on bio-diversity and conservation. We possess the most experienced naturalists with more than 40 years of experience in wildlife. Having the experienced naturalists, skilled staff and ample of experience on conservation and ecotourism, we also  support King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation and Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation by submitting a count on wildlife and reporting to the park authorities about any interesting facts. The lodge also possesses a land outside the national park where our Mountain Lodge has been established. This lodge  looks after a community school established in collaboration with Swiss Air. This school has been established and operated by us for the local unprivileged children. It has 25 students till grade 2. The school takes care of all education expenses and provides uniform and 2meals a day to the students. The school has a library, which is open to all village children on Saturday. Near the school there is an organic farm. Most of the vegetables and fruits for the lodges come from the farm. The farm also helps local community by giving them courses on organic farming and cultivation of new vegetables or fruits to which they are not aware. The farm also produces bio-gas. It has already trained the locals about utilizing bio-gas and now many villagers use bio-gas for cooking rather than firewood, which is indeed helping to protect forest. The lodge also has a trained medical officer and provides services and facilities of the small clinic to the locals for free of cost. Apart from training on farming, the lodge also provides training to the local women on weaving hammocks. Also, the lodges
has employed all local people to help boost the local economy by floating the income of tourism amongst the locals itself till the grass-root level.
