How to Volunteer with Ecoteer

Finding a suitable placement on the Ecoteer web site is simple. Follow the three steps below to organise your volunteer placement.

Step 1: Find a placement

Browse our placements section to see what type of placements are currently available.

This will help you decide what kind of placement you want and where in the world you would like to travel.

Our placements are updated frequently so even if there is no suitable placement at the moment then we recommend you join our mailing list by submitting the form on the right hand side of this page. We will then send you an email when new placements are available.

Step 2: Become an Ecoteer member and register your details

When you have found a placement, simply register by filling in our membership form with your details.

You will need to pay a small fee of £10 to become an Ecoteer member, which lasts for 1 year, before you can view the contact details for our placements.  New members will be provided with an Ecoteer username and password within 5 days. You can then login to our members area where you can view the full contact details of all placements plus use our 'advertise yourself' feature where you can tell potential placements about yourself and what type of volunteering you would like to do!

The annual membership fees help us to cover our costs, such as running this web site. Our fee is considerably lower than other volunteer organisations and the volunteer placements are extremely low cost as well making EcoTeer the cheapest volunteer company on the web!

You can use our Ecoteer Easy Pay method or send a cheque by post. Payment is required before your username and password will become active and is non-refundable.

Step 3: Contact the placement

To find out more information about the placements please view there own websites.  As the people working at the projects will ultimately know more than any 3rd party!  We advise you to email the project contact person with any further questions.

We strongly recommend you send emails to several placements which appeal to you therefore increasing the possibility of positive replies.  When you send an initial email please include some details about yourself (qualifications, life experiences etc), why you want to volunteer with that particular placement, rough dates, languages you speak and anything else you think may be relevant.

Through our own volunteering experiences on a tight budget we believe this method is best as they will obviously know more about there own project than any 3rd party which helps to eliminate any miscommunications.  The direct contact is also good in building a relationship between yourself and the project plus you can have some input into your itinerary while volunteering at an early stage!  This kind of interaction can only help to increase the mutual benefits which volunteering can bring!

Step 4: Arrangements!
