After many years of experience in running volunteer programs, Ecoteer are now running their own programs. Using volunteers to help run and fund conservation and humanitarian projects can be a great way to generate new ideas and cash flow for projects which are both needed for a dynamic sustainable project.
Ecoteer projects will strive to be the best and be based on responsible volunteering ethics, and will give you access to their clear management plans, and graphics of where your money is spent. The projects will each have one aim and a few objectives to help achieve the aim with most volunteering activities helping the project to achieve the objectives and ultimately its aim – giving meaningful volunteer projects. For more information visit our Responsible Volunteering Policy specific for projects set up by Ecoteer.
The projects will still be run independent from Ecoteer but under Ecoteer's directorship. For example the first Ecoteer project will be called Help Our Penyu which in 2011 will be named an official Malaysian non-profit society with Ecoteer on the board of directors.
Malaysia was once famed as the most important nesting site for leatherback turtles but now they are virtually extinct from Malaysia with under a handful of nests per year. The other 3 species of sea turtle are on a similar course – hence the need for Help Our Penyu.
Help Our Penyu is the first Ecoteer Project and in its pilot year will involve visiting the local school once a fortnight as well as spreading turtle and marine awareness amongst tourists.
